After 26 years in real estate, you work with a lot of people.
Thousands of conversations.
Plenty of wins.
Some hard lessons too.
I have always loved this industry.
I still do.
It is challenging, demanding, endlessly human and, when it is done well, it is incredibly rewarding.
Until recently, I will be honest, I was not always open to reconnecting with people I had worked with in the past.
Everyone leaves eventually.
That is just reality.
There are good leavers, the ones who leave with respect, honesty and integrity, and then there are the rest.
But here is the thing I have come to really understand.
People make decisions based on what feels right at that moment in time.
And sometimes,
That decision no longer fits.
What if the role they moved into did not turn out how they hoped?
What if the culture was not what was promised?
What if they have grown, changed, matured personally and professionally?
And what if they would like to come back,
But do not know if they are welcome,
Or who to call,
Or whether the door is even open?
Time passes.
People change.
Businesses change.
And leaders should change too.
We have made a very conscious decision to lean in,
To be open to conversations with people who were part of our journey before and are curious about what it might look like to return.
This comes off the back of recently welcoming back a team member who previously worked with us and has made the decision to come home.
He is the second person to do so and there are others we are currently in conversation with who are quietly curious.
That tells me something important.
It tells me that growth is not linear.
Careers are not always tidy.
And sometimes the best chapters come after a few plot twists.
