I realise meeting stacking isn’t exactly a revolutionary concept, but actually committing to it consistently has been a game changer for me.
I’ve recently been trialling “meeting stacking” every Tuesday for about eight weeks now.
One meeting after the other.
Similar meeting subjects grouped together so I stay in the same mindset and flow.
At first?
Man alive it was exhausting.
No real breaks except for a quick bite to eat.
I was late a couple of times trying to transition between meetings.
By the end of the day my brain felt completely cooked.
I spoke to a few people outside of real estate about it and most of the responses were:
“That sounds horrible.”
“How do you do that?”
“That would drain me.”
And honestly, in the beginning, it absolutely did.
But a few weeks ago something changed.
I found the groove.
I found the flow.
What I realised was the exhaustion wasn’t necessarily coming from the volume of meetings.
It was coming from the lack of rhythm and preparation around them.
So here’s what started helping me:
- Preparing properly on Monday
- Reviewing notes and agendas beforehand
- Packing lunch (which I do every day anyway)
- Hydrating properly
- Taking a quick walk around the block after the first few meetings
- Resetting mentally at lunchtime
- Then cracking back in for the second half of the day
Most importantly, I learnt I had to consciously show up positively for every meeting.
Each team member deserves your energy.
Not the leftover scraps from the meeting before.
That part matters.
At the end of the day I tidy up reporting, return calls, check messages and emails, then I deliberately switch off and go for a walk to reset my brain.
And after eight weeks, something interesting has happened…
I actually look forward to these Tuesdays now.
I’ve realised I use far less brain RAM by stacking meetings together rather than constantly context-switching across an entire week.
I stay in leadership mode.
I stay in problem-solving mode.
I stay in coaching mode.
There’s less stop-start.
Less mental gear changing.
Less wasted energy.
Do I still have meetings on other days? Of course. Real estate doesn’t exactly allow for perfect structure.
But having one day dedicated heavily to leadership meetings has created better flow, better preparation and surprisingly… better energy.
It won’t work for everyone.
But for me, this small change has made a big difference.
Sometimes productivity isn’t about doing more.
Sometimes it’s simply about protecting your focus better.
